Lights! Lights! Lights!

After 1 month of lights-hunting, we purchased the following:

Entrance

Entrance light for S$16 from Taobao (purchased via Daigou)

Dining

2 pendant lights for the dining area from Johor

If I'm not wrong, it's about S$70 for 2 with bulbs. 

We replaced the bulbs to cool white after because the free bulbs were warm white and it was unbearably hot to dine with it.

Kitchen

From Ikea! It requires 2 bulbs.

About S$75 spent.

 

2m of Yellow LED strips from Johor to be placed under the top cabinets.

Bathrooms & Yard

For the master bathroom, we purchased 1 of the square LED white lights plus a yellow T5 mood light. Common bathroom and yard will be using the square LED white light.

All purchased from Johor.

Living Area

We have 8 track lights for the living area. Also purchased from Johor.

 

Bedrooms

And lastly in addition to the ceiling fan-light, we purchased 2 tri-colour lights from Taobao! Each costs me about S$76. The delivery fee was the same price as the product 0_o

Sadly, we misplaced the remote control for the light in the study room!

J and I bought some items from this electrical shop in Bukit Merah called Hong Liang Electrical Enterprise.

Their service was good and the price pretty reasonable so we bought these items for the house:

Below are some photos, will update more once they have been installed :) The items are not necessary cheaper but the service was pretty good. They are very busy so have to be patient with their replies at times but it's totally acceptable for us!

 

P.S. Oh the more item you buy and payment by cash, might be able to get you a better price.

Love Nest: Aircon Servicing

The current Daikin aircon is about 6 years old and changing the whole system will cost us about $4000 to $5000, so we decided to call for repair and servicing instead.

We noticed that the casing of the master aircon pipe had some leakage stain& the air isn't exactly cold, so the repairman told us that we needed to change the motor and insulator. To change the motor was the main bulk of the repair cost. Our bill came up to $430 excluding servicing. We will request for servicing after the completion of the renovation, I think it should be about $25 to $50 per system. 

Not sure how long this system will last but it is good enough for now. Hopefully it lasts another 5 years or so because it will be a very messy business! *cross fingers*

The icky thing about this unit is that all the rooms have recess under the windows and 2 ugly pipes in the kitchen and the entrance area. The previous owner only stayed in the house for 5 years but it wasn't well-maintained - they did overlay for the rooms and living area just 5 years ago but the skirtings are all damaged by moisture :s and the gate, main door and wooden doors are either damaged or not working well..

 

We are doing an overhaul for the kitchen and toilets and will do a build in for the shoe cabinet. As for the rest of the house, it will be removal of cornices, painting and feature wall for the living room.

After looking at the artwork, we made the following changes:

1. Decided that it will be too much subway tiles for the kitchen so the entrance to the yard will just be painted grey.
2. The floor tiles was changed to grey (based on our selection from Singseesoon)
3. After the 2nd site inspection, we realized that the door wasn't able to align to the beam and pipes so we decided to do away with the door
4. Remove the tall unit for the microwave and built in oven- we will probably be buying a tabletop oven instead.
5. Instead of 4 windows, we changed to 6 for the half glass wall
6. Added a mounted dish rack

Further amendments were done when the hacking was in progress: Shifting of the sink to the far end so that there's more tabletop space and also remove the built in oven at the bottom of the hob.

Hacking

Our frustration with the ID company starting from the beginning...

I went down to take a look during the hacking process & realized that the cardboard wasn't laid well to protect the living room and bedroom floorings! Causing quite a bit of debris from the hacking were embedded in between the protective sheets and the flooring and have a high possibility of scratching the floor when the workings walk or drag heavy items on the floor. Informed the coordinator and she said they are very professional and know what they are doing so don't need to worry! -.-

 

 

  

Tiling & construction work

After 3 days of hacking, laying of the waterproof cement was done concurrently with the tiling works. Reconstructing the kitchen's half wall and toilet ledges were also done.

 

 

 

 

   

J had to design how the tiles should be laid for the yard because the tiler laid it in a very weird (& ugly) way. Sighhhh where's our ID service...
