Craving for Japanese Food

Celebrated our 6th year anniversary last week, and we decided to have my favourite Japanese food. Checked in at Sushi Tei (Tampines) at 8pm after queuing for half and hour. We ordered lots of salmon dishes :D

 

1. Salmon Sashimi (S$8.80)

Super fresh! How I wish it's a salmon sashimi buffet haha..

 

2. Salmon Oyako Roll (S$11.80)

Combination of melt-in-the-mouth salmon aburi and crispy soft shell crab, yummy!!

 

 

3. Garlic rice (S$8.80)

A common dish in all Japanese restaurant, can't go wrong with this dish :)

 

4. Hiyashi Chuka Soba (S$12.80)

First time trying this cold dish, I would give it a 7/10. The sauce is slightly too salty for me :p

 

 

5. Salmon Mentai Yaki (S$12.80)

Love this dish, the salmon was good to perfection and I love the mentaiko sauce (but a tad salty too). Recommended to eat with white rice instead of garlic rice to neutralize the salty flavor.  

Total Price: S$65.21 (inclusive of wet towels)

 

Sushi Tei has never fail to impress (food & service), worth every cent :D

Wedding Invitation Cards Ready!

Within 3 weeks of the artwork confirmation, we were notified that our cards are ready for collection. Excited, we decided to collect it the very next day. And boy, we were super happy with the outcome!

 

Ta-dah! Here's the end product of my dream invitation cards!

 

Can't wait to start distributing them in June :D

Traditional Wedding Items Part 1

Previously when we went to India for the retreat, J decided to buy the hard liquor for guo da li at the duty free shop at Changi Airport. Mum requested for DOM instead of Martell because they don't take much alcohol and DOM will be good when I do my confinement in the future ^^ He bought it at S$47.10 each (1L), not sure if it is cheaper than outside though.

Travelling to and fro Johor, allow us to check out some of the wedding shops that sells traditional wedding items, and here are the shops that we managed to check out. I did not buy the pre-packed packages because my parent will be replacing some of the items such as baby shower tub and other baby items with cash instead.

My Hairless Journey

After a year of procrastination, I finally got down to buying the vouchers for IPL 2 months ago. I bought the coupon from Diva Spa for Brazilian IPL and half leg IPL from Care Lyna.   

Review for Diva Spa (Brazilian IPL): 

• First session was crazy hard-sell but the next was better. I was pretty firm on not upgrading the services haha. 
• Very clean environment
• They only have 1 IPL machine, so be prepared to wait if they have other customers doing IPL around the same time slot.
• If you shave beforehand, for Brazilian IPL, it will only take 5 to 8 mins for the whole session.
• Saw results after the first session, hair growth rate reduced and slightly less coarse. But they did not zap properly, so when the hair grows out, I noticed that some areas are patchy. Pointed it out to them at the next visit so that they can be more careful about it but they kept saying that it's due to the different growth rate of the hair, which I highly doubt it's true because it grew in a very nice strip way haha oh well...

Review for Care Lyna (half-leg IPL):

• Very clean environment
• Very friendly
• Serves tea and cookie at the start of every visit
• No hard-selling so far
• If you shave beforehand, it will take about 15mins for both legs. If not, it will take about 25mins.
• Saw results after the first session- hair growth rate reduced

Generally prefer care lyna to diva spa but both were not too bad since the deal price was very reasonable :) Hopefully after 12 sessions, I will be hairless in those areas! Looking forward to it :D

Honeymoon Destination Decided!

After weeks and weeks of discussion, we finally decided on our honeymoon destination!!

Here's what we have roughly decided on:
6D 5N: London
5D 5N: Iceland
10D 10N: France

Travel period: Mid-November to Beginning of December
It will be freezing! Need to start to look out for winter wear sale!

Budget for 2: S$12,000 to S$15,000
We need to start saving up after the wedding!!

EXCITED! Will post a more detailed itinerary after the wedding :)

River Safari: For the love of pandas

J managed to ballot for tickets to river safari last weekend, so we only brought my sis along since my parents were busy and couldn't make it. Since we reached only at 12pm, we decided to settle our lunch at KFC first. 

Info on River Safari

Opening Hours (Daily): 9am to 6pm

Note: Last panda viewing is at 5pm

River Safari Cruise Admission Fee: S$5/pax

Ride duration: 15 mins

Last ride: 5.30pm
 

Here are some of the eateries available:

• Main entrance: KFC, Wild Deli, Chawang Bistro, Ah Meng Kitchen and Inuka Cafe
• Inside the river safari: Mama Panda Kitchen (Open daily: 9.30am to 6pm) and River Safari Tea House (Open daily: 10am to 8pm)

Unlike the zoo, river safari is mainly sheltered and there's a couple of places which are air-conditioned. We started our journey at the Mississippi river: featuring the Alligator gar (my first photo), alligator snapping turtle and some other fishes.

 

Next up, the African dwarf crocodile at the Congo River.

 

The Indian Gharial, usually found in the Ganges river was seriously huge but sadly we didn't get to see it move.

After following the trail for about an hour, we finally reached the most popular and long-awaited Giant Panda Forest! Kai Kai and Jia Jia were super cute! We stayed there for a good 10 to 15 mins just looking at them. 

 

 

 

  

We really enjoyed our trip to the river safari and it was truly interesting and entertaining. We were there for about 4.5 hours, slowly strolling, reading each descriptions and closely looking at each species! Awesome edu-tainment :D

Being a Part of History

When I first heard that Mr Lee Kuan Yew has passed on, it was via a group chat - my friends were getting annoyed that they had to postpone their event and earning lesser commission because of the week long mourning. And it made my heart heavier than it already was. We can't time death and we should be respectful of the dead. Thus I was disappointed at how many people are thinking that way. 

Anyways, on the first day of the public wake, J and I went to queue to pay our last respect during lunch. Little did we know that we had to queue about 5 hours and had a bad sun-burn but we were really glad that we did it. And we would like to thank the nice people who gave out cold drinks and water to quench our thirst! :D 

The queue started extending to Fort Canning.

For me, the week long mourning brought about new insights on Mr Lee's life and Singapore's history. And I really hope that we can always be grateful for what we have and have lesser complains. And most importantly, strive to be a better nation together. 

To end off this post, here's what I would love to say to Mr Lee:

Sir,

Thank you for having a vision so great.

Thank you for your endless contribution and love to the nation.

Thank you for standing strong for Singapore despite many setbacks. 

Thank you for transforming the country from 3rd world to 1st world.

Thank you for building such a strong international platform for us.

Thank you for touching me with your love story and aspiring me to have a love like yours.  

We are sadden by your departure but we take solace that you are in a better place right now with your wife.  

RIP Sir! 

Last but not least, I am proud to be a Singaporean and part of a unique culture :)
